Designer and paper artist Peter Dahmen, born in 1967, studied communication design at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund, Germany. Since his student time, he has been passionately designing three-dimensional folding objects made of paper and cardboard. His foldable paper artworks became very popular on the internet – with millions of viewers on his YouTube, Facebook, and Pinterest pages. Since then, he has received commissions from companies worldwide. 

 As an independent designer, he creates prototypes for pop-up sculptures in all conceivable sizes and for the most diverse purposes. What inspires him to this day is the enormous range of his commissions. Many of his designs are produced in large editions, but he also designs exclusive one-off pieces. For example, he constructed a gigantic folding backdrop more than 34 feet wide and 16 feet high for a press conference of a German car manufacturer at the “International Motor Show 2011” in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. His large-format paper pop-up sculptures for the Israeli company Highcon were among the most filmed and photographed objects at the trade show DRUPA 2016. Some of his exclusive pop-up card designs became bestsellers at the MoMA Store in New York. 

In his artistic works, he likes to focus on the process of transformation. Some of his works create the illusion of movement only through the interaction of light and shadow and by changing the viewer's angle of vision. It is impossible to grasp these objects in their entirety at a single glance. Only by changing the angle of view – that is, only by moving the viewer – can the colorfulness of the paper sculptures gradually be fully grasped.
